As we approach the second CLIMAAX newsletter, it is time to highlight the project’s webinars since we last met. In the meantime, a series of so-called Pilot Region Webinars has been held. In this article, we would like to give you an insight into these series. As you may know, CLIMAAX has five pilots: Catalonia (Spain), Setúbal (Portugal), Latvia, Finland and Žilina (Slovakia). These pilots pave the way for over 60 regions to receive FSTP funding and profit from the services that the CLIMAAX project has to offer.
More specifically, the CLIMAAX pilot regions shape and co-design the Framework and Toolbox together with the authorities in charge of implementing Climate Risk Assessments and Risk Management Plans. What’s more, the pilot sites identify needs first-hand and can thereby, further facilitate the standardisation of its implementation and adoption.
To demonstrate the experiences throughout this process with best practices, possible hurdles and lessons learned, the pilot regions all took part in a series of the so-called Pilot Region Webinars. By clicking the hyperlinks, you will be able to hear their interventions including a basic introduction to the region, its main climate hazards and the road ahead in the CLIMAAX project.
Setúbal
The pilot from Setúbal, Portugal hosted their Pilot Region Webinar during the Webstival held in Setúbal in January 2024.
Finland
The pilot from Finland held their Pilot Region Webinar in an interview format during the InfoDay held in June 2024.
Catalonia
As the Pilot Region Webinars have the aim to engage the local community in the pilot activities as well, the pilots had the possibility to host the webinar in their native language. Catalonia has opted for this choice and held a session in Catalan and Spanish.
Žilina
Žilina held their Pilot Region Webinar in early September regarding their preliminary results, achievements, and the road ahead with their experts.
Latvia
Finally, at the end of September, Dace Zandersone data analyst Forecasting and Climate division at the Latvian Environment, Geology and Meteorology Centre highlighted Latvia’s pilot activities and the scope through which they operate the Climate Risk Assessment Framework.
As we reflect on a successful round of Pilot Region interventions, we would like to thank the pilots for their interventions and their hard work during this eventful phase of the project. Their work has been, and is, of utmost importance to the projects and their aims. Please keep an eye out for the CLIMAAX event agenda as we strive to continuously engage the climate adaptation and mitigation community in our events. (by Jip Lenssen, EURADA)
